Support for Parents of Kids with Mental Illness
69Parents of mentally ill kids need support
The Bipolar Monster Social Networking Site. Created
by a parent for parents! This is a social networking site
dedicated to parents struggling with children with Bipolar Disorder
symptoms!
Parents...do you have a child with Bipolar Disorder? Or a child who is exhibiting symptoms of Bipolar, including depression, anxiety, mania, anger, rage, violence, obsessive compulsive or addictive behavior? Does your child have mood swings that you know are not "normal"? Does his or her personality change from cooperative and respectful, to someone you just don't recognize?
You might be familiar with the "Bipolar Monster", then! The "one" who takes over your child's mind, body, and even soul. The "one" who can change your child from your precious son or daughter you know and love, to someone you think you don't even like (let's be honest).
This is a safe place for parents to connect. A place to come for help and advice--an online support group.
A place to share your own stories of frustration and pain, along with your triumphs and blessings.
This is a place to learn how to TAME the Bipolar Monster!

Our mission at Bipolar Monster, as a community of parents with a mentally ill child, is to give comfort and support to other parents who are dealing with a child's Bipolar Disorder or other mental illness. This is a safe place to share stories and hopes and dreams for our children; to meet other parents who are on the same or similar journey with their children.
We will respect each other's parenting styles, but also have the opportunity to give advice when asked.
We are not gathered as experts, but as fellow parents who are struggling with caring for our mentally ill children.
For a nominal monthly donation, you will have access to informative articles on childhood Bipolar and other mental illnesses, a place to blog your thoughts, ideas, poems, etc, forums where you can post questions and answers, get great ideas from each other on how to deal with your child's symptoms, and most importantly get to know other parents who are going through similar struggles as you are, and who UNDERSTAND your feelings!
You also have the opportunity to escape from dealing with life's challenges, and have some fun talking with other members about anything and everything! Upload photos and videos, start your own groups, write your own blogs, place ads, and more!

The BipolarMonster Social Site needs parents to join! If you are a parent with a child with symptoms of a mental illness (diagnosed or not), please stop by and check out the site. We need your input, and someone may benefit from your knowledge and experience!
If you know someone who may benefit from this site, please give them the web address so they can sign up.
Thank you, and God Bless!

I understand where you are coming from...really. Hope I did not offend you in any way with my comments. As I sit here and reread them I sound like a bit of a cold fish.
I will be adding your info to our website links :)
I am glad your son made it through the teen years "ok"....we get to define what ok is in our home anymore. I am sure you do too.
Blessings to you and your family. Keeping the faith is what has kept me from going down a dark path of dispair. I liked your messages about prayer and faith.
Big hugs,
Jenny

dealing with this sucks for both the child and their caregiver. why can't there be a site that can be there for you. just type it in, and there is a simple chat room with no b.s It is hard enough to ask for help, and really to find people who really understand how you feel about mental illness, because alot of people don't and don't want too, if you had cancer and another sickness, people kinda listen, mental illness, It's all in our heads

Thank you for sharing information on this important topic. Parents of mentally ill children do need social support.
However, there are many more networks for parents of kids with emotional disorders. It would be good to note that the national organization NAMI has a free parent online resource, message room, chat. Also, the Bi Polar and Adolescent Child foundation has, for a nominal annual fee a huge resource for parents, including social networking, they have been around for over 10 years, have thousands of members and are recognized globally for their work.
In addition there are several Facebook pages (while not private) that have over a few hundred members visiting each day to offer eachother support.
I would caution against suggesting only one resource in your next article, espically a for profit marketing site.
Take care, and good luck with your writing.
Blessings,
Jenny
